Nine people, including a few members of ZSP were arrested March 1 when the police raided a squat. The property was one of many city-owned buildings which are left to rot by the city administrators who are helping the gentrifiers. During the winter, irreparable damage often occurs in uninhabited buildings, which are sometimes deliberately left with water so the pipes can freeze and burst, or which have the windows removed, so that damage is caused by the snow. The 9 people, who had nowhere to live, cannot afford the rents in this city and have no hope of receiving munucipal housing (since the city doesn't give much of it, there are huge lines of people who need it, but the city is busy destroying what they have or privatizing it). So they took matters into their own hands and squatted.


The comrades were detained overnight. We organized an emergency solidarity picket at the police station and the police agreed that they would be released. They were charged with destroying property .... even though it is clear that it is the city which is doing this.

While the number of homeless is increasing dramatically and people cannot find affordable housing, the investment banks and real estate speculation firms (including many which abandoned Spain to work on a new bubble in Poland) are erecting more and more empty buildings, filled with flats nobody can afford. Much of this is being built on speculative capital, with money gathered through investment funds promising foreign investors huge profits. There is tons of empty housing, both the newly built flats and the old municipal ones abandoned by the city. We have called numerous times for people in this situation not to suffer, but take what they need and make use of it, managing the housing themselves. Clearly the state, which supports the development of the private landlord / speculator - tenant relationship of perpetual profiteering does not like this and we think the raiding of this squat - one of many discreet squats that are springing up around the city - was not an accident.

Varsovia, Polonia: Okupa desalojada y activistas detenidxs

Nueve personas, incluyendo varixs miembros del ZSP (Unión de Anarcosindicalistas Polacxs), fueron arrestadxs el 1 de marzo cuando la policía asaltó una okupa. El edificio era, como muchos otros, propiedad de las autoridades municipales, dejados a la podredumbre por parte de los administradores, que se dedican a ayudar a la alta burguesía. Durante el invierno, se crean daños irreparables en los edificios deshabitados, que se dejan deliberadamente con el agua activa en las cañerías para que se congelen y revienten o se les quitan las ventanas, para que sea la nieve la que cause los desperfectos. Estas nueve personas, que no tenían donde vivir, no se pueden permitir los alquileres de esta ciudad y no tienen esperanzas de recibir una vivienda municipal (como la ciudad no proporciona muchas, hay filas enormes de gente que las necesitan, pero la ciudad está ocupada destruyendo las que tienen o privatizándolas). Así que decidieron tomar cartas en el asunto y okupar.

Lxs compas fueron detenidxs de forma repentina, durante la noche. Así que organizamos un piquete de emergencia en la comisaría de policía y estos acordaron que lxs liberarían. Se les imputa el cargo de destrozos a la propiedad… aunque está claro que es la ciudad la que está haciéndolos.

A medida que el numero de sin techos aumenta dramáticamente y la gente no encuentra viviendas que se puedan permitir, los bancos de inversión y las especuladoras firmas inmobiliarias (incluyendo aquellas que abandonaron España para crear una nueva burbuja en Polonia) levantan más y más edificios vacíos, rellenos de apartamentos que nadie se puede permitir. Mucho de esto se construye con capital especulativo, dinero acumulado a base de fondos de inversión, prometiendo enormes beneficios a inversores extranjeros. Hay miles de viviendas vacías, tanto los apartamentos nuevos, como las viviendas abandonadas de la ciudad. Hemos invitado muchas veces a la gente en esta situación a que dejen de sufrir, que tomen lo que necesitan y lo usen, gestionando ellxs mismxs sus viviendas. Obviamente, al Estado, que apoya el desarrollo de relaciones de especulación perpetua: casero /especulador-inquilinx, no le gusta este cambio de circunstancias y creemos que el asalto a esta okupa (una de las muchas discretas que han brotado en la ciudad) no fue un accidente.
